Interestingly the movie is receiving poor to average reviews from critics but good word of mouth, this is reflected in the 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes compared with 6.5/10 on IMDB I actually enjoyed it! As to where the sequels will go will depend on the source material, I for one would like to see more of Number Six’s story, it looks like a lot more fun than Number Four’s. Making back around a third of its estimated $60million in its opening weekend it stands a reasonable chance of making a profit. I Am Number Four is the first of a proposed six-book series, the only thing that will stop there being more movies is a poor box-office. Death Race and In the Name of the King also have sequels, all be it without Statham.

Add to this Jason Statham is becoming king of the franchise movie The Transporter and Crank already have sequels, there is an Expendables sequel on the way and possibly an Italian Job sequel too. The new Jason Statham version has a twist on the original ending that’s only useful purpose is to set up a sequel. Warning Plot spoilers: The 1972 movie directed by Michael Winner and starring Charles Bronson and Jan-Michael Vincent has a brilliant ending that negates any possibility of a sequel.

The only issue is that the Coen’s are yet to make a sequel.

However I would love to see more of their interpretation of the character portrayed Jeff Bridges in a new movie. Given the fact that the Coen brothers consider their film to be a more faithful adaptation of the novel and not a remake of the 1969 movie I wouldn’t expect them to remake Rooster Cogburn.

The interesting question is which of this years movies will spawn sequels, I have seen five good possibilities so far: ( Warning possible plot spoilers ahead) True GritĪlthough the novel True Grit written by Charles Portis is a stand alone work the original movie starring John Wayne did have a sequel: Rooster Cogburn aka Rooster Cogburn … and the Lady (written by actress Martha Hyer under the pseudonym Martin Julien). I thought I would look at this, of the twenty movies I have seen so far this year only The Mechanic and True Grit are remakes and I haven’t seen any sequels yet. When discussing the number of new movies I see at the cinema (a lot for those who don’t know) it was suggested to me that there is nothing new being made, all new movies are remakes and sequels.
